COVID-19: Canada Responds
Federal Update on AstraZeneca COVID-19 Vaccine – April 14, 2021
In a virtual news conference, Dr. Supriya Sharma, chief medical adviser with Health Canada, and Dr. Marc Berthiaume, director of the Bureau of Medical Science at Health Canada, provide an update on the use of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine in Canada. The update comes one day after the Public Health Agency of Canada reported the first case of an individual in Canada experiencing blood clots after receiving a dose of the vaccine. Health Canada concludes that these events of blood clots may be linked to the vaccine, but the agency is not restricting its use because the occurrences are very rare and officials believe the benefits of the vaccine in protecting against COVID-19 outweigh the risks.
