COVID-19: Canada Responds
PM Trudeau on COVID-19, Ontario Transit Funding, Line 5 Pipeline – May 11, 2021
On Parliament Hill, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau discusses the federal government’s response to the ongoing COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) pandemic. He is joined virtually by Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Dominic LeBlanc, as well as by Dr. Theresa Tam, Canada’s chief public health officer, and Dr. Howard Njoo, deputy chief public health officer. The prime minister announces a federal investment of $12 billion for four subway projects in the Greater Toronto Area and a rapid transit project for Hamilton. Trudeau also announces funding to support Nunavut’s response to COVID-19 and confirms ventilators have been shipped to India to help that country in its crisis. He faces questions about the looming shutdown of Enbridge's Line 5 pipeline and about Canada's rollout of COVID-19 vaccines.
