COVID-19 : Federal Ministers and Health Officials Outline Reopening Guidelines
At virtual briefing, Dr. Theresa Tam, Canada’s chief public health officer, and Dr. Howard Njoo, deputy chief public health officer, join federal ministers Patty Hajdu (health), Anita Anand (procurement) and Dominic LeBlanc (intergovernmental affairs) to provide an update on the ongoing COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) pandemic. They outline guidelines for a progressive reopening as vaccinations ramps up during the summer, which will allow people to attend small outdoor gatherings. As people receive their second doses ahead of the fall, indoor gatherings will then be allowed. Minister Anand also announces that Canada will receive a total of 4.5 million doses of Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines on the week of May 17 as Pfizer has agreed to move up deliveries scheduled for the week of May 24 due to the upcoming Victoria Day holiday.
