Fed. Ministers on Residential School Graves, COVID-19 in Indigenous Communities
In a news conference on Parliament Hill, Indigenous Services Minister Marc Miller is joined virtually by Crown-Indigenous Relations Minister Carolyn Bennett and Minister of Northern Affairs Dan Vandal to discuss the search for residential school graves in light of the recent discovery of the buried remains of 215 children at the Kamloops Indian Residential School in British Columbia. Valerie Gideon, the senior assistant deputy minister for the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch of Indigenous Services Canada, and Dr. Tom Wong, chief medical officer of public health for Indigenous Services Canada, also participate to the event to provide an update on the federal government’s response to COVID-19 (coronavirus disease), focusing on the pandemic’s impact on Indigenous communities in Canada.
