Ontario Govt. Unveils Details of Province's New Grade 9 Math Curriculum
At a news conference in Toronto, Ontario Education Minister Stephen Lecce announces details of the province's new math curriculum for grade 9 students. Ontario is ending the academic and applied streams, and will offer one course that focuses on real-world applications. The course includes mandatory new learning on coding, data literacy, mathematical modelling, and an emphasis on financial literacy. The minister is also asked about a request sent to him from the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB) to allow elementary students to return to in-person learning for the last week of the school year. The Ontario government announced on June 2 that schools would continue with remote learning for the remainder of the academic year due to concerns over an increase of new COVID-19 cases.
