COVID-19: Canada Responds
Nova Scotia Entering Phase 2 of Reopening Plan on June 16
In Halifax, Iain Rankin, the premier of Nova Scotia, and Dr. Robert Strang, the province's chief medical officer of health, provide an update on the provincial response to the ongoing COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) pandemic. They announce that the province will enter phase two of its five-phase reopening plan on June 16. Indoor gathering limits will be increased to 10 people for informal gatherings without social distancing and masks. Up to 25 people will be allowed at informal outdoor social gatherings without social distancing. Phase also includes a return of indoor restaurant dining, and the reopening of personal services businesses like hair salons and spas. All retail stores can operate at 50 per cent capacity and households can have more than one designated shopper. The announcement comes as the province reports four new COVID-19 cases. Earlier in the day, the premier announced in a statement that Nova Scotia would be lifting its border restrictions and opening to the rest of Atlantic Canada on June 23. Residents of New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador will not be required to self-isolate for 14 days on entering the province. Nova Scotia is aiming to open to the rest of Canada by no later than July 14. (June 15, 2021) (no interpretation)
