Annamie Paul Wins Green Leadership
At an event in Ottawa, Annamie Paul is named as the new leader of the Green Party of Canada, securing her victory on the eighth and final ballot. She becomes the first Black woman to lead a national party in Canada. There were eight candidates vying to succeed Elizabeth May, who announced in November 2019 that she was stepping down as leader after 13 years. The party cancelled its plan to hold an in-person leadership convention in Prince Edward Island due to the COVID-19 pandemic. (October 3, 2020)
