Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer Reveals New House Leadership Team
Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer speaks with reporters on Parliament Hill after making an announcement about his House of Commons leadership team. Leona Alleslev, the Toronto-area MP who crossed the floor from the Liberal party to join the Conservatives in September 2018, has been named deputy leader. The position was previously held by Lisa Raitt, who was not re-elected in the October 21 federal election. Scheer's leadership has been under scrutiny in wake of the party’s failure to win enough seats to topple the Liberals and form government, and he faces a mandatory leadership review due to the election defeat at the party’s biennial convention next April. He recently fired his chief of staff as well as his communications director. (November 28, 2019)
