Conservative Caucus Chair on Andrew Scheer's Leadership
Conservative caucus chair Tom Kmiec speaks with reporters on Parliament Hill following the party's emergency caucus meeting. Andrew Scheer announced earlier in the day that he was stepping down as party leader, but would stay on until a successor is chosen. He will remain as the MP for the Saskatchewan riding of Regina-Qu'Appelle. Kmiec tells reporters that the caucus voted unanimously in favour of keeping Scheer as leader until a replacement is named. Scheer's resignation comes amid revelations party funds were used to partly pay for his children's private school tuition. (December 12, 2019) (no interpretation)
