Transport Minister Marc Garneau Unveils Final Air Passenger Protection Rules
Transport Minister Marc Garneau and Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA) chair Scott Streiner hold a news conference at Ottawa International Airport to announce the government's final provisions of its air passenger protection regulations. These set of rules dealing with flight delays, cancellations, and compensation come into effect on December 15, 2019. Airlines will also be required to seat children under the age of 14 near their parent, guardian or tutor at no extra cost. The first stage of regulations took effect on July 15, 2019, and addressed tarmac delays, compensation if a passenger is denied boarding for reasons that are within an airline’s control, lost and damaged luggage, and the transportation of musical instruments.
