Transport Minister on Iran Plane Crash Investigation, Compensation
At a news conference in Ottawa, Transport Minister Marc Garneau provides an update on the ongoing investigation into the crash of a Ukraine International Airlines passenger aircraft in Tehran, Iran. He is joined by Omar Alghabra, parliamentary secretary to the prime minister and to the deputy prime minister. Fifty-seven Canadians were among the 176 people killed in the January 8 crash. Canadian investigators made their first visit to the crash site on January 14 as part of an international team. Canada is also leading the International Coordination and Response Group that is advocating for a full and transparent investigation. Iran has admitted that it unintentionally shot down the plane, amid growing tensions with the U.S. (January 15, 2020)
