Federal Govt and AFN Sign Agreement on Child and Family Services – July 7, 2020

On Parliament Hill, Marc Miller, the federal minister of Indigenous services, and Perry Bellegarde, the national chief of the Assembly of First Nations, respond to questions from reporters after signing a protocol agreement concerning the exercise of First Nations’ jurisdiction over the provision of child and family services. The agreement comes following the passage in June 2019 of Bill C-92, legislation which established principles concerning the provision of Indigenous child and family services and provided a framework for enabling Indigenous groups to exercise their jurisdiction over those services. The legislation came into force on January 1, 2020.
