Conservatives Call for Anti-Corruption Committee to Examine WE Charity Affair
At a news conference on Parliament Hill, Michael Barrett, the Conservative ethics critic, and Pierre Poilievre, the party's finance critic, comment on their efforts to revive investigations into the federal government's now-cancelled agreement with WE Charity. Their party is calling for the creation of a special anti-corruption committee to investigate the WE Charity controversy. The new committee would combine Parliamentary investigations on the matter and allow those committees to return to their normal work. The House of Commons ethics and finance committees were both examining the controversial agreement until their work was brought to a halt in August by the prorogation of Parliament. Conservative MPs intend to hold marathon committee sittings this week and press both committees to resume their investigations. (October 12, 2020) (no interpretation)
