Canada, U.K. Announce Interim Trade Agreement – November 21, 2020
On Parliament Hill, Mary Ng, the minister of small business, export promotion and international trade, discusses the conclusion of negotiations for an interim trade agreement between Canada and the United Kingdom. She is joined by Rachel Bendayan, her parliamentary secretary. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Boris Johnson, his U.K. counterpart, and Elizabeth Truss, the U.K. secretary of state for international trade, also deliver remarks via pre-recorded videoconference. The Canada–United Kingdom Trade Continuity Agreement is a temporary deal necessitated by the U.K.'s exit from the European Union and, consequently, from the Canada–European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA). The two countries are expected to enter into negotiations for a permanent trade agreement in the coming year.
