NDP MP Reacts to PBO Report on Services to First Nations Children
NDP MP Charlie Angus speaks with reporters on Parliament Hill about a new report from the Parliamentary Budget Officer regarding compensation for the delay and denial of services to First Nations children. The report estimates it could cost the federal government up to $15 billion to comply with a Canadian Human Rights Tribunal decision as it relates to children who should have received services available under Jordan’s Principle. Named in memory of Jordan River Anderson from the Norway House Cree Nation in Manitoba, the principle ensures all First Nations children have equitable access to government services.
