Federal Ministers Announce $2.7B for the Purchase of Electric Buses
In a virtual news conference, federal ministers Catherine McKenna (infrastructure and communities) and François-Philippe Champagne (innovation, science and industry) announce $2,75-billion funding for munipalities to purchase zero-emission, electric city buses, school buses and charging stations. They are joined by Jim Watson, the mayor of Ottawa, Ehren Cory, the CEO of the Canada Infrastructure Bank, and Josipa Petrunic, the president and CEO of the Canadian Urban Transit Research & Innovation Consortium. The announcement comes following Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s commitment, in February, to invest $14.9 billion in public transit projects over the next eight years. (March 4, 2021)
