PM Trudeau Announces $10M to Train Energy Auditors For Home Retrofit Program

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau makes a virtual announcement that the federal government is committing $10 million to recruit and train up to 2,000 energy auditors as it launches the Canada Greener Homes Grant in the coming weeks. Up to $5,000 will be provided in grants to help retrofit up to 700,000 homes. The prime minister is joined by Natural Resources Minister Seamus O’Regan and Employment Minister Carla Qualtrough, as well as Corey Diamond, executive director of Carleton University’s Efficiency Canada. Following the announcement, ministers O’Regan and Qualtrough respond to questions from reporters concerning Major-General Dany Fortin’s departure as head of Canada’s vaccine rollout amid a military investigation into sexual misconduct allegations. O’Regan is also asked about negotiations to keep Enbridge’s line 5 pipeline open. (May 17, 2021)
