B.C. Introduces New Child Care Legislation – June 8, 2021
At a news conference in Victoria, British Columbia ministers Mitzi Dean (children and family development) and Katrina Chen (child care) announce new legislation to move the province toward universal child care. The proposed legislation would require the province to produce annual reports on its progress toward a universal child care system, and would give the minister responsible the authority to enact new regulations, such as capping fees. It would also allow temporary certifications for early childhood educators who received their training abroad. The ministers are joined by Sharon Gregson, a member of the Coalition of Child Care Advocates of B.C., and Jenny Oikawa, a working mother in Vancouver. (no interpretation)
