B.C. Reinstating Trade Certification Program – June 11, 2021
In Victoria, British Columbia Premier John Horgan announces the province is launching a mandatory certification program for skilled tradespeople. He is joined by Anne Kang (the provincial minister of advanced education and skills training), Andrew Mercier (the parliamentary secretary for skills training), Shelley Gray (the CEO of the Industry Training Authority), and Raven Hillebrand (a gasfitter and red seal plumber). The program brings back the requirement for skilled workers in 10 trades classifications to be certified. The requirement was rolled back in 2003. B.C. is the only province where tradespeople do not need to be fully certified. (no interpretation)
