Ont. Premier on Milton Education Village, COVID-19 – June 17, 2021
At a news conference in Milton, Ontario Premier Doug Ford joins provincial ministers Steve Clark (municipal affairs), Ross Romano (colleges and universities) and MPP Parm Gill to make an announcement about the Milton Education Village. The provincial government is providing funding support for the project, which includes new campuses for Conestoga College and Wilfrid Laurier University, as well as space for a new long-term care home that will be operated by Schlegel Villages. Gord Krantz (mayor of Milton), Deborah MacLatchy (president and vice-chancellor, Wilfrid Laurier University), and John Tibbits (president, Conestoga College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning) also take part in the news conference. Premier Ford takes questions from reporters following the announcement. He is asked about the economic impact of the project on Milton, if there are plans for an earlier start to phase two of the province's reopening plan, and his decision to invoke the notwithstanding clause to pass an election spending bill.
