Federal Update on Renovation of Centre Block
Federal Public Services and Procurement Minister Anita Anand holds a virtual news conference to provide an update on the renovation of Centre Block. She is joined by her parliamentary secretary Steven MacKinnon and by Rob Wright, assistant deputy minister of the Science and Parliamentary Infrastructure Branch. Public Services and Procurement Canada officials have released final designs, cost estimates and projected timelines. The restoration project is expected to be completed in 2030-31, with a cost of between $4.5 billion and $5 billion. The Parliament building temporarily closed its doors on December 12, 2018, for an estimated decade-long major renovation, the largest and most complex heritage rehabilitation project ever seen in Canada. Centre Block houses both the House of Commons and Senate chambers. (June 17, 2021)
