Senators Discuss New Senate Harassment Policy
Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration - February 6, 2020: The committee discusses a draft policy on the prevention of harassment in the Senate workplace. The proposal is intended to strengthen and modernize the existing harassment policy by adding several new provisions, including a broader definition of harassment, clear disciplinary or corrective measures, and an impartial complaint process through a third-party. It is the first rewrite of the Senate’s harassment policy in more than a decade. Of concern to some senators is the potentially vague wording in the provisions, such as use of the term ‘et cetera’ in defining harassment.
