In Committee from the House of Commons
Foreign Affairs and International Development - June 22, 2017
The committee conducts its clause-by-clause review of the Magnitsky Law (S-226), which imposes sanctions against foreign nationals who commit human rights violations. The legislation is named after Russian lawyer Sergei Magnitsky, who died in a Moscow prison in 2009 after accusing officials of tax fraud. The United States, Britain and Estonia have adopted similar legislation. (June 22, 2017)
