MPs Begin New Study on Settlement Services for Newcomers
Citizenship and Immigration - January 30, 2019: MPs begin their study on settlement services across Canada. Conservative MP David Tilson first raises a point of order to hear from Immigration Minister Ahmed Hussen and Border Security Minister Bill Blair in two separate meetings in relation to the supplementary estimates rather than a joint meeting. David Manicom from the Department of Citizenship and Immigration provides an overview of the services offered to newcomers to Canada. Representatives from various non-profit organizations then discuss pre-arrival services for refugees and newcomers. Matthew Cecchetto from the International Organization for Migration, Queenie Choo from S.U.C.C.E.S.S and Jean-Guy Bigeau and Roukya Abdi-Aden from Réseau de développement économique et d'employabilité (RDÉE) Canada discuss their respective groups' services.
