Defence, Health Officials Brief MPs on Canada’s Response to Coronavirus
Health - February 5, 2020: The committee is briefed by two panels concerning the Canadian government’s response to the Coronavirus outbreak. Appearing first from the Department of National Defence (DND) is Major General T.J. Cadieu, who briefs the committee on the Canadian Armed Forces’ role in assisting the return of Canadian citizens from China following the outbreak, followed by the Public Health Agency’s Tina Namiesniowski, who updates the committee on ongoing developments concerning the government’s response to the outbreak. Also appearing on the first panel are Canada’s Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Theresa Tam and the DND’s Major General A.M.T. Downes. Appearing on the second panel are the Chinese Canadian National Council for Social Justice’s Avvy Go and Kennes Lin; the City of Toronto’s Medical Officer of Health Dr. Eileen de Villa; as well as British Columbia’s Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry.
