Environment Commissioner’s Report on Dangerous Goods
Public Accounts - November 5, 2020: Interim Environment Commissioner Andrew Hayes briefs the committee on his office’s report concerning the transportation of dangerous goods. The report is a follow-up audit focused on Transport Canada’s and the Canada Energy Regulator’s implementation of recommendations from 2011 and 2015. The audit found that Transport Canada has failed to follow-up on violations and has not approved many emergency response assistance plans; while the Canada Energy Regulator has largely implemented its 2015 recommendations concerning the oversight of pipelines. Addressing the environment commissioner’s report are Canadian Energy Regulator’s Gitane De Silva and Sandy Lapointe, as well as the Department of Transport’s Michael Keenan.
