Senators Question Ministers on COVID-19 Benefits Bill
Senators question ministers Chrystia Freeland (finance) and Carla Qualtrough (employment, workforce development and disability inclusion) during a committee of the whole about Bill C-4, the federal government’s legislation to implement three new benefits for workers affected by the COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) pandemic. The legislation includes paid sick leave and a benefit for the self-employed or those ineligible for Employment Insurance. It will also implement a caretaker benefit for eligible Canadians who have to stay home to take care of a child under 12 or a family member because of a closed school, closed daycare, or a positive COVID-19 case. The House of Commons adopted Bill C-4 at all stages on September 29. (October 1, 2020)
