Reactions to Quebec’s Secularism Bill – June 17, 2019
The following parliamentarians react to the National Assembly of Quebec’s passing Bill 21, legislation that will bar certain civil servants from wearing religious symbols while at work, into law last night: Justice Minister David Lametti, Tourism Minister Mélanie Joly, Liberal MP Anthony Housefather, Conservative MPs Gérard Deltell and Pierre Paul-Hus, NDP MP Matthew Dubé, as well as Bloc MP Marilène Gill. Representatives from the The National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM) and the Canadian Civil Liberties Association (CCLA) hold a news conference in Montreal to discuss their legal challenge to Quebec’s Bill 21.
