Green Light for TMX Pipeline Expansion – June 18, 2019
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau holds a news conference in Ottawa to announce Cabinet’s approval to move ahead with the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion project. Work on the pipeline stopped last August, after the Federal Court of Appeal ruled that the project’s approval process was flawed and there was a lack of consultation with Indigenous communities. The federal government then purchased the pipeline from Kinder Morgan for $4.5 billion.
Finance Minister Bill Morneau, Natural Resources Minister Amarjeet Sohi, and Environment Minister Catherine McKenna appear alongside the prime minister to field questions from reporters about Cabinet’s decision.
