B.C. Premier on COVID-19, Oil and Gas Wells Cleanup – May 13, 2020
In Victoria, John Horgan, the premier of British Columbia, releases his government's plan to clean up orphaned and inactive oil and gas wells in the northern part of the province. He is joined via videoconference from Vancouver by Bruce Ralston, the B.C. energy minister. The plan will create up to 1,200 jobs in the oil and gas service sector amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. On April 17, the federal government announced it would provide $120 million to B.C. for cleaning up orphaned wells. The premier also announces that the province's state of emergency has been extended for an additional two weeks. (no interpretation)
