PM Trudeau Commits $14 Billion to Provinces for COVID-19 Recovery – June 5, 2020
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau addresses Canadians from outside his home in Ottawa on the federal government's response to the ongoing COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) pandemic, including a one-time tax-free payment of $600 for eligible Canadians with disabilities to cover extra expenses. He also announces the federal government is prepared to provide $14 billion to the provinces and territories as it negotiates an agreement to restart their economies. The prime minister also comments on a number of recent incidents in which Indigenous Canadians were injured or killed in encounters with police.
