Bill Morneau on Wage Subsidy Changes, WE Charity – July 17, 2020
At a news conference in Toronto, Finance Minister Bill Morneau announces proposed changes to the federal wage subsidy program, including an extension through to December 19 and easing eligibility rules for businesses affected by the COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) pandemic. Businesses would no longer be required to show a 30-per-cent revenue decrease in order to qualify for the program. He also apologizes for not recusing himself from cabinet discussions that awarded a now-cancelled contract to WE Charity to administer a $900-million federal grants program for student volunteers.
