COVID-19: Canada Responds
Federal Briefing on COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution – January 14, 2021
On Parliament Hill, Dr. Howard Njoo, Canada’s deputy chief public health officer, holds a technical briefing on Canada’s distribution of COVID-19 vaccines. He is joined by Major-General Dany Fortin, vice-president of logistics and operations at the Public Health Agency of Canada and head of the country’s vaccine distribution efforts, as well as Dr. Tom Wong, chief medical officer of public health for Indigenous Services Canada. Dr. Njoo says that the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) now recognizes that, in exceptional circumstances, authorities may consider a 42-day interval before the administration of Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccines’ second dose. Pfizer recommends a 21-day interval between the two doses of its vaccine, while Moderna recommends an interval of 28 days for its product.
