COVID-19: Ontario Expands Workplace Inspections Campaign – January 20, 2021
At a news conference at Queen's Park, Monte McNaughton, Ontario’s minister of labour, training and skills development, provides an update on the province’s recent inspections of essential businesses amid the COVID-19 pandemic. He announces that Ontario is expanding its inspection campaign and officers will be visiting a variety of workplaces that have been allowed to remain open during the provincial shutdown. The inspections target violations of public-health measures that are aimed at slowing the spread of COVID-19. The blitzes began this past weekend at of big-box retail stores in the Greater Toronto Area and Hamilton. Minister McNaughton says inspectors found 76 contraventions. The inspections are taking place amid the province-wide stay-at-home order, which has been in effect since January 14.
