COVID-19: Canada Responds
Federal Update on COVID-19 and Travel Restrictions – January 29, 2021
In a virtual news conference, Dr. Theresa Tam, Canada’s chief public health officer, and Dr. Howard Njoo, deputy chief public health officer, join federal ministers Bill Blair (public safety), Omar Alghabra (transport) and Dominic LeBlanc (intergovernmental affairs) to provide an update on Canada’s response to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. The ministers outline details of the federal government's newly announced travel restrictions. New restrictions include the suspension of flights by major airlines to Mexico and the Caribbean until April 30, mandatory COVID-19 testing at airports for all arriving international travelers, as well as a three-day supervised quarantine in a designated hotel at travellers' expense while they await test results.
