COVID-19 in B.C.: New Variant Linked to Nigeria Detected – February 12, 2021
In Vancouver, Dr. Bonnie Henry, British Columbia's provincial health officer, and B.C. Health Minister Adrian Dix provide an update on the province's response to the COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) pandemic. Dr. Henry announces that a third COVID-19 variant has been identified in the province. One case has been confirmed to involve the B1.525 variant, which is associated with travel to or from Nigeria. This is Canada's first case involving that variant. To date, B.C. has 29 confirmed cases of the B.1.1.7 variant originally found in the United Kingdom and 17 of the B1.351 variant associated with South Africa. (no interpretation)
