COVID-19 in Toronto: City Requests Lockdown Extension – February 17, 2021
In Toronto, Mayor John Tory, Dr. Eileen de Villa, Toronto’s medical officer of health, and Matthew Pegg, the general manager of Toronto’s Office of Emergency Management, provide an update on the city’s response to COVID-19 (coronavirus disease). The city is asking the provincial government to keep Toronto in lockdown and under a stay-at-home order for at least an additional two weeks until March 9. Toronto is making the request due to concerns over the spread of COVID-19 variants. Peel Region is also requesting an extension of public-health measures. Toronto and Peel Region are both scheduled to re-enter the province's colour-coded framework on February 22. Several regions began moving back to the framework and easing measures on February 16.
