COVID-19: Canada Responds
Federal Updated Modelling on COVID-19 and Variants – February 19, 2021
In a virtual news conference, Dr. Theresa Tam, Canada’s chief public health officer, and Dr. Howard Njoo, the deputy chief public health officer, hold a technical briefing to discuss the most recent federal modelling data concerning the possible impact of COVID-19 and variants in Canada. The modelling predicts that with more contagious variants spreading, further lifting of public-health measures will cause the epidemic to re-surge rapidly and strongly. Current public-health measures would be insufficient to control the forecasted rapid growth and resurgence. However, Dr. Tam adds that a combination of enhanced community-based public-health measures and strict adherence to individual precautions is expected to get the epidemic under control.
