COVID-19: Canada Responds
COVID-19 in P.E.I.: Update on New Border Measures, Assistance for Ontario
In Charlottetown, Dr. Heather Morrison, Prince Edward Island's chief public health officer, and Dennis King, the premier of P.E.I., provide an update on the province’s response to the ongoing COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) pandemic. Dr. Michael Gardam, the chief operating officer of Health P.E.I., takes part in the briefing via teleconference. In his remarks, Premier King addresses Ontario's request for emergency health assistance as that province tries to keep the third wave of the pandemic under control. The premier says P.E.I. will do whatever it can to help, and that details will be presented later in the day on the extent that assistance could look like. Dr. Morrison announces that effective immediately, P.E.I. is restricting non-resident travel to the province from outside Atlantic Canada for the next four weeks. There are currently no plans to restrict travel within the province. Islanders are asked to limit interprovincial travel unless it is for essential purposes. Seasonal residents are advised to postpone their travel to P.E.I. until at least May 17. Rotational workers will need pre-travel approval, must isolate until their first negative test, and agree to be tested every second day. (April 19, 2021) (no interpretation)
