COVID-19: Canada Responds
NDP Leader on COVID-19 Aid, MP Mumilaaq Qaqqaq – June 16, 2021
NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh speaks with reporters on Parliament Hill after a virtual meeting of his party’s caucus to call on the federal government to reverse its decision to cut $800 a month to the Canada Recovery Benefit (CRB) for July and August. He is asked whether his party will support a motion from the Bloc Québécois on Quebec's right to unilaterally change the Constitution in regards to proposed reforms to the province's language law. Singh also faces questions about NDP MP Mumilaaq Qaqqaq's personal experiences as a parliamentarian. The MP for Nunavut gave a farewell speech in the House of Commons the previous evening with other MPs who are not seeking re-election. She said that she was made to feel that she did not belong, that she never felt safe or protected within the House of Commons and has been racially profiled by Hill security.
