Transport Minister Marc Garneau Comments on Wet’suwet’en Solidarity Protests
Federal Transport Minister Marc Garneau speaks with reporters in Toronto about the ongoing protests in support of the Wet’suwet’en Nation, whose hereditary chiefs oppose the construction of the Coastal GasLink pipeline that crosses their traditional territory in northern B.C. The minister is scheduled to meet with Indigenous leaders as well as his provincial and territorial counterparts to discuss the situation. The protests have brought a halt to passenger and freight rail traffic in a number of locations across Canada. Via Rail has cancelled most of its train services and CN Rail has shut down its eastern Canadian network over blockades. (February 14, 2020)
