Former B.C. Residential School to be Demolished and Replaced – April 15, 2021
At a virtual press conference, British Columbia Premier John Horgan and federal Indigenous Services Minister Marc Miller announce the demolition and replacement of a former residential school in the community of Lower Post. A cultural centre will be constructed with $13.5 million in funding from the federal and B.C governments as well as from the Daylu Dena Council. This announcement comes after years of lobbying from Indigenous leader because of the physical and sexual abuse memories this building brings to community elders. The province’s minister of Indigenous relations and reconciliation, Murray Rankin, and many Indigenous leaders also participate to the event. (no interpretation)
