Plight of the Uyghurs in China and the Magnitsky Act

Subcommittee on International Human Rights – July 21, 2020 – Part 1:

In their study on the human rights situation of the Uyghurs, MPs hear a call to apply the Magnitsky Act to sanction Chinese officials. Passed in Canada in 2017, the Magnitsky Act allows the government to sanction, withhold travel visas, and freeze assets of foreign government officials implicated in gross human rights abuses.

Speaking to the committee are William Browder (Global Magnitsky Justice Campaign), Olga V. Alexeeva (Université du Quebec à Montreal), Errol P. Mendes (International Commission of Jurists Canada), and journalist Azeezah Kanji.
