Rail Blockades: Wet’suwet'en & the RCMP – February 20, 2020
Public Safety Minister Bill Blair, Crown-Indigenous Relations Minister Carolyn Bennett, and Indigenous Services Minister Marc Miller discuss the RCMP’s offer to displace their check point in Wet’suwe’ten territory in efforts to defuse the rail disruptions and solidarity protests. Conservative Party Leader Andrew Scheer, Bloc MPs Sylvie Bérubé and Rhéal Fortin, as well as NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh also speak to reporters about the ongoing rail blockade crisis. Representatives from the Wet’suwet’en Nation, the Union of British Columbia Indian Chiefs (UBCIC) and the B.C. Civil Liberties Association (BCCLA) hold a news conference to discuss their calls for an independent investigation into the RCMP’s handling of a pipeline protest in Wet’suwet'en territory.
