Denise Savoie
Pierre Donais welcomes Denise Savoie, the New Democrat MP for Victoria, B.C. Born in St. Boniface, Man., she trained as a teacher. In 1999, she was elected to Victoria's City Council as a candidate of the Victoria Civic Electors, which had ties to the NDP. In 2006, she was elected to Parliament with 38.5 per cent of the vote, thus taking the seat from cabinet minister David Anderson. Savoie is the only French-speaking MP from British Columbia sitting in the House of Commons.
