IDRC: Africa Conference, Energy & Infrastructure
Africa's New Frontier: Innovation, Technology, Prosperity The Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade as well as the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) organized this two-day conference in Ottawa, from February 4 to 5, 2010. The conference looked at the technology and innovative tools that are allowing the continent's citizens to thrive in the 21st century. Donald Bobiash (director general of DFAIT's Africa bureau) moderated this February 5th session on "Energy and infrastructure: Building the New Africa". Subramaniam V. Iyer (sector manager of the World Bank's Africa Energy Group), Martin Doble (global managing director for Hatch Ltd.), and Bertrand Millot (chief investment officer for Cordiant Capital Inc.) discussed the current state of Africa's infrastructure, and the challenges in meeting the continent's future needs and demands.
