PrimeTime Politics Weekend
June 11, 2010
Host Martin Stringer sits down with a panel of guests to discuss Canada’s priorities for the upcoming G8 and G20 summits in Toronto. Meera Shekar (World Bank Human Development Network), Jacqueline Sharpe (International Planned Parenthood Federation), and Raymonde Folco (Liberal MP and president of the Canadian Association of Parliamentarians on Development) elaborate on their hopes for maternal and child health initiatives. Martin is then joined in the studio by journalists Louise Elliott (CBC) and John Geddes (Maclean’s) to discuss concerns about the cost of the G8 and G20 summits and rumours of a possible Liberal–NDP merger. The Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources begins its consideration of the current status of Canadian offshore oil drilling. Concerns about the safety and environmental impact of offshore drilling escalated after a massive oil spill aboard a British Petroleum rig located in the Gulf of Mexico. Mark MacLeod (the vice-president of Chevron Canada Ltd. (Atlantic Canada)) and David MacInnis, (the vice-president of policy for Government and Public Affairs) present testimony before being questioned by senators.
