Status of Women
Status of Women (October 19, 2010) Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff discussed his private member's bill to implement the recommendations of the 2004 Pay Equity Task Force. Bill C- 471 is Ignatieff's first private member's bill since he became an MP in 2006. His proposal would create a new commission to ensure pay equity in the federal public service, Crown corporations, and federally-regulated corporations. It would also make pay equity an enshrined human right. Jacqueline Bogden, executive director of the Treasury Board Secretariat's compensation and labour relations sector, and Hélène Laurendeau, the sector's assistant secretary, also testified.
