Aboriginal Peoples – October 4, 2011
Representatives from various aboriginal organizations testified as part of the committee's study of possible strategies for reforming First Nations primary and secondary education. Among other things, the study has focused on the following: tripartite education agreements, governance and delivery structures and possible legislative frameworks. Senators heard from the following witnesses: Denise Stonefish (acting Grand Chief, Association of Iroquois and Allied Indians); Bob Atwin (executive director of First Nation Education Initiative Inc.); Keith Frame (assistant director of education, Prince Albert Grand Council); and James B. Wilson (treaty commissioner of Manitoba).
