Liberal leader Bob Rae and NDP deputy critic for aboriginal affairs Jonathan Genest-Jourdain reacted to the federal government's announcement that the First Nation community of Attawapiskat is being placed under third-party management. Aboriginal Affairs Minister John Duncan made the announcement during today's question period. NPD leader Nycole Turmel and New Democrat MP Charlie Angus spoke to reporters about their visit yesterday to the northern Ontario community of Attawapiskat. Angus was also asked about the ruling made by the Speaker of the House of Commons regarding the official record of minister Tony Clement's committee testimony on G8 spending. The NDP had accused Clement of altering Hansard, but speaker Andrew Scheer cleared the minister of any involvement. NDP critic for international cooperation and consular affairs Jinny Sims discussed developments in the Hank Tepper case. The Canadian potato farmer has been held without charges for the past eight months in a Lebanese prison. It is alleged that the New Brunswick man had exported rotten potatoes to Algeria in 2007. The CBC recently reported that the RCMP sent Tepper's financial records to officials in Algeria.
